Stand with Greece !!

The Greek people are being held to ransom by international creditors for an enormous and unpayable debt that they don’t owe and can’t pay.

The austerity ‘medicine’ prescribed by its creditors has devastated the Greek economy and society, driving millions more into poverty and cutting access to essential services like basic healthcare.

Stand with Greece
War on Want was one of the first organisations to launch a popular campaign, back in the 1980's, against the devastation which a country's debts, held by global institutions, can cause to the wellbeing of its citizens. We also stand against austerity policies which mean public services are put in jeopardy.
Today, Greece is on the frontline of Europe’s debt crisis and, with €10 billion in debt repayments due between now and the end of August, solidarity across Europe is needed now more than ever.

Investigations in Greece into the origins of the Greek debt crisis have started to uncover how it was caused by the lending of irresponsible European banks, the borrowing of the corrupt Greek elite, and a global network of tax havens which allows money to flow out of the country.

War on Want has joined together with 42 organisations across 14 countries to launch aEurope wide petition calling for Greece’s debts to be cancelled and an end to forced austerity. Time is running out.

Join us and stand with Greece!

If enough people across Europe stand with Greece then the Greek government might be able to resist the growing pressure to submit to more punishing bail-out conditions andstand strong in its demands for debt justice.

Thank-you for your support,

Owen Espley
Economic Justice Campaigner
